About Emily Blair
Emily is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with children, teens, adults, couples, and families navigating life’s challenges and relationship dynamics. She creates a warm, steady, and supportive environment where clients feel safe to be honest, vulnerable, and understood.
Emily believes therapy is most effective when it is collaborative and grounded in trust. She works alongside her clients to explore patterns, strengthen communication, and build practical tools that foster healthier relationships — both with themselves and with others. Her background in family systems allows her to thoughtfully consider how past and present relationships shape emotional well-being.
Education & Background
Emily earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University and her Bachelor’s degree in Family Social Science from University of Minnesota.
She has experience working in both outpatient and inpatient settings, supporting clients across varying levels of care. Emily is trauma-certified, Prepare/Enrich certified, and trained in the Gottman Method — an evidence-based approach to couples therapy focused on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and deepening connection.
Areas of Focus
Emily works with individuals, couples, and families experiencing:
- Anxiety and depression
- Grief and loss
- Relationship and marital distress
- Family conflict
- Communication challenges
- Trauma-related concerns
- Life transitions
She enjoys helping couples strengthen their emotional connection and guiding families toward healthier, more productive ways of relating to one another. Emily also supports children and teens who may be struggling with emotional regulation, social stressors, or family changes.
Therapeutic Approach
Emily’s work is rooted in family systems theory and evidence-based practices. In couples work, she integrates the Gottman Method to help partners develop healthier communication patterns, manage conflict effectively, and rebuild emotional intimacy.
With individuals and families, she focuses on increasing insight, strengthening coping skills, and identifying relational patterns that may be contributing to distress. Emily balances compassion with gentle challenge, helping clients move toward meaningful and lasting change.
More About Emily
Outside of work, Emily enjoys spending time with her dog, Oliver, getting lost in a good book, and baking for friends and family. She values connection in her personal life just as much as she does in the therapy room.
