When the Past Still Hurts in the Present
Trauma can leave a lasting mark—sometimes in obvious ways, sometimes in ways that are harder to name.
Why are they so reactive all of a sudden? Why are they having nightmares again? Why do I feel numb, on edge, or like I’m reliving something I can’t move past?
Whether it’s a recent event or something long buried, trauma can show up through anxiety, emotional outbursts, sleep problems, chronic tension, or feeling disconnected from yourself or others.
For kids, it might look like big meltdowns, regression, or fears that don’t make sense. For teens, it might mean shutting down or acting out. For adults, it can feel like you’re stuck in survival mode—even when life seems “fine” on the outside.
The good news? Healing is absolutely possible.
We specialize in trauma-informed care that helps you gently process what you’ve been through—at your own pace and in a way that feels safe. You or your child can learn to feel calm again, trust again, and reconnect with the present.
Our Comprehensive Approach to Counseling for Trauma
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy for trauma. It helps the brain process distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelming or stuck. EMDR can reduce anxiety, flashbacks, and emotional triggers—without needing to talk through every detail. It’s used with children, teens, and adults who’ve experienced everything from medical trauma to bullying, abuse, grief, or accidents.
Trauma-Informed Talk Therapy
Sometimes what’s needed most is a safe space to tell your story, feel understood, and work through the emotional impact of trauma. Our trauma-informed therapists use a blend of approaches—including CBT, DBT, and mindfulness—to help clients develop emotional safety, process difficult experiences, and build tools to move forward.
Play Therapy for Trauma
Younger children may not have the words to talk about what happened—but they do have play. Through art, movement, and imaginative play, kids can express, process, and begin to heal from trauma in a way that feels natural and supportive.

How do I know if trauma counseling is needed?
Trauma can show up in many ways: anxiety, irritability, sleep issues, mood swings, emotional numbness, or feeling constantly on edge. For kids, it might look like regression, separation anxiety, or outbursts. For teens and adults, it may involve panic, avoidance, or feeling “stuck.” If past experiences are interfering with daily life or relationships, trauma therapy may be helpful.
What exactly is EMDR therapy—and how does it work?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic or distressing memories so they’re no longer emotionally overwhelming. You don’t have to go into every detail of the trauma. Instead, EMDR uses guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation to help you process and release the emotional charge tied to past events. It’s used with children, teens, and adults—and it works.
What can I expect in the first trauma therapy session?
The first session is focused on building comfort and trust. You or your child won’t be pushed to talk about anything before you’re ready. We’ll ask about what’s been going on, explore goals for therapy, and explain how EMDR or trauma-informed care can help. It’s a gentle starting point—and we’ll move at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.
