In short, yes, with a few considerations. At Cutting Edge Counseling of the North Shore, our fundamental principle revolves around collaboration, aiming to involve families in the treatment process of children and adolescents to the fullest extent possible. Typically, our clinicians engage parents of young children by inviting them to participate in a portion or the entirety of the session(s) or allocate specific session time for private parent consultations. In cases where family collaboration extends beyond the scheduled session times, and our clinicians provide assistance to you and/or your child, there will be charges for their time. Additionally, some clients find it beneficial to schedule occasional or regular parent sessions, either in person or via telehealth, to provide additional support as needed.
Everything is confidential with your therapist unless you are in danger of hurting yourself, others, or are getting hurt, we will break that confidentiality. This is something that would be discussed with you.
No! Therapy is what you make of it, if you want to lay down, go for it! If you want to go for a walk, bring your walking shoes. Does your kid like to play soccer? Great, let’s kick around a ball! Like coloring? We’ve got the crayons! We have plenty of activities we can also do, but if you prefer to lay down and talk that works too.
When you call for your intake call we will discuss with you your needs and help match you with an appropriate therapist. If you ever feel that your therapist is not a good fit for you, please let us know. It's always important that you are comfortable with your therapist.
As long as you need, and not any longer. It can vary from person to person on how long therapy lasts. On average I tell clients to expect at least 6 months of therapy, but sometimes a year or longer.
